Hello :)
I'm a senior in high school and need to start applying to colleges. I was wondering whether you guys could help me decide which colleges I would be most likely to get in. I'm interested in medicine and aspire to become a surgeon some day. I really want to go to NYC so something there and maybe in Ohio, but those states aren't restricted. Anywhere is cool.

SAT score: 1900 (math + reading= 1280)
ACT score: 25
GPA: 4.0
Extra curricular: Student Ambassador, National Honor Society, Student Government, French club, Latin club, Spanish club, Junior volunteer at local hospital, Junior Ambassador at Cleveland Cleveland clinic, member of Junior Achievement, just started working at Panera Bread

Thank you :)
I'll also most probably be a D.A.R.E. role model.
And I was in Student Govnt for only my freshman and sophomore year) and I was junior ambassador at Cleveland Clinic for only a summer.

Also, NYU is my dream college but I couldn't get in there with my test score: my ACT and SAT scores are too low. :(

But last month, in a move that has sent ripples all the way to the White House, Hoh, 36, became the first U.S. official known to resign in protest over the Afghan war, which he had come to believe simply fueled the insurgency.

"I have lost understanding of and confidence in the strategic purposes of the United States' presence in Afghanistan," he wrote Sept. 10 in a four-page letter to the department's head of personnel. "I have doubts and reservations about our current strategy and planned future strategy, but my resignation is based not upon how we are pursuing this war, but why and to what end."

The reaction to Hoh's letter was immediate. Senior U.S. officials, concerned that they would lose an outstanding officer and perhaps gain a prominent critic, appealed to him to stay.

U.S. Ambassador Karl W. Eikenberry brought him to Kabul and offered him a job on his senior embassy staff. Hoh declined. From there, he was flown home for a face-to-face meeting with Richard C. Holbrooke, the administration's special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

"We took his letter very seriously, because he was a good officer," Holbrooke said in an interview. "We all thought that given how serious his letter was, how much commitment there was, and his prior track record, we should pay close attention to him."

Guess playing golf and screwing Americans is more important than our troops.

WASHINGTON -- A former Marine who fought in Iraq, joined the State Department after leaving the military and was a diplomat in a Taliban stronghold in Afghanistan has become the first U.S. official to resign in protest of the Afghan war, the Washington Post reported early Tuesday.

Matthew Hoh, who describes himself as "not some peacenik, pot-smoking hippie who wants everyone to be in love," said he believes the war is simply fueling the insurgency.

"I have lost understanding of and confidence in the strategic purposes of the United States' presence in Afghanistan," Hoh wrote in his resignation letter, dated Sept. 10 but published early Tuesday. "I have doubts and reservations about our current strategy and planned future strategy, but my resignation is based not upon how we are pursuing this war, but why and to what end."

The move sent ripples all the way to the White House, the paper said, where officials immediately appealed for him to stay out of fear he could become a leading critic.

U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry brought him to Kabul and offered him a job on his senior embassy staff, but Hoh declined. He then flew home and met with Richard Holbrooke, the administration's special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Holbrooke told the Post he disagreed that the war "wasn't worth the fight," but did agree with much of Hoh's analysis.

"We took his letter very seriously, because he was a good officer," Holbrooke said in an interview with the newspaper. "We all thought that given how serious his letter was, how much commitment there was, and his prior track record, we should pay close attention to him."

The revelation comes as President Obama pledged on Monday not to "rush the solemn decision" to send more troops to battle in Afghanistan as he weighs military options on what to do next in the troubled war.

The administration is debating whether to send tens of thousands more troops to the country, while the Afghan government is moving to hold a Nov. 7 runoff election between President Hamid Karzai and challenger Abdullah Abdullah. The runoff comes after complaints by international monitors of fraudulent voting in the first election.

ABC News, citing unnamed sources, reported Monday evening that Obama will likely announce his decision for Afghanistan between that nation's runoff presidential election on Nov. 7, and the president's departure for Tokyo, Japan, on Nov. 11.

"I won't risk your lives unless it is absolutely necessary," Obama told service men and women at Naval Air Station Jacksonville on Monday. He promised a "clear mission" with defined goals and the equipment needed to get the job done.

Obama, who is in the process of weighing options put forward by the Pentagon that include various levels of increased troops, spoke of the latest example of the dangers and sacrifices there -- helicopter crashes that killed 14 Americans in the deadliest day for the U.S. mission in Afghanistan in more than four years.

Has anyone seen Lady Gaga's speech at the National Equality March? She wants to represents young people in America. She got a chance to eat dinner with Obama and perform for him..

Shes becoming a strong gay icon and I like it :) What do you think?

(if you are gonna comment on her constant reference to sex..just think..thats just exactly what teenagers do.)

Lady Gaga is so amazing(:
Yes?

i know the basics i was thinking something to do with being a wilderness ambassador or animal ambassador?(such thing?)If so how would one become an ambassador? but other than that what kinds of animal related jobs are there? something that is ground related (not so much water) and something that is not really related to ALOT of out of family life/time. THANK YOU

You gotta love Robin Williams........Even if he's nuts! Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan. What we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message.
Robin Williams' plan...(Hard to argue with this logic!)

'I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here's one plan.'

1) 'The US/ UK/ AUSTRALIA will apologize to the world for our 'interference' in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic, Hussein, and the rest of those 'good 'ole' boys', we will never 'interfere' again.

2) We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting withGermany , South Korea , the Middle East , and the Philippines . They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one allowed sneaking through holes in the fence.

3) All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of whom or where they are from. They're illegal!!! France will welcome them..

4) All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit!!!! No one from a terrorist nation will be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.

5) No foreign 'students' over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a 'D' and it's back home baby.

6) The US /UK/Australia will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while

7) Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go someplace else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)
8) If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not 'interfere.' They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.

9) Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island someplace. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

10) All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us 'Ugly Americans' any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH..learn it...or LEAVE...Now, isn't that a winner of a plan?
'The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying 'Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.' She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, 'you want a piece of me?'

I am fifteen years old, and Australian (but I'm a citizen of two other countries, and spent some time living in Europe as a kid) , and I really want to become an ambassador. For TEE I'm doing politics and law, history, french and maths, english literature and chemistry. For university I was thinking of doing an arts/law degree and studying history and international relations as the arts part, and then maybe trying for the Rhodes Scholarship. Do you have any advice for applying for the Diplomatic Corps, what sort of qualifications I'd need and any extra things that I could do which could set me apart and give me an advantage?

2 Corinthians 5:14-21 (New King James Version)

14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.
16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

I'm songleading this sunday!

The vast, vast majority of NFL owners are conservatives, like Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones. Many people do not like them, others love them. Who cares? That's football, right? Same with the MLB and conservatives owners like George Steinbrenner. Where is this whole thing coming from? Nobody complained when Dan Rooney thanked Obama after the Super Bowl, so he could become the ambassador of ireland. It's like when ESPN made Limbaugh resign, yet nobody seems to mind Olbermann on NBC. Who decides which free speech is acceptable? This country is going down a very dangerous road when criticizing the president is considered racist and speaking your mind bans you from buying things.

that student ambassador thing got sent to me a couple days ago to play soccer in europe. and is this like a scam or something? how much does it cost? do you think it's worth the money? just give me all the info cause they didn't even give me a phone number, they just gave me the website.. and is their a gaurantee that i could become a pro soccer player one day?

Christianity- The belief that a cosmic Jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a women who became impregnated without being fertilized or having sex was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree... does that sound logical right to you

Next time before you say Scientology is Insane or Hinduism is Irrational- look at your own beliefs cause they are out of this world Ludicrous

This is my Thesis to the Masses as the I am
The Atheist Ambassador to the Christians

(2 Corinthians 5:20) . . .We are therefore ambassadors substituting for Christ, as though God were making entreaty through us. As substitutes for Christ we beg: “Become reconciled to God.”
(Philippians 3:20) . . .As for us, our citizenship exists in the heavens, from which place also we are eagerly waiting for a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
(Ephesians 6:20) . . .for which I am acting as an ambassador in chains; that I may speak in connection with it with boldness as I ought to speak.
(Matthew 25:40) 40 And in reply the king will say to them, ‘Truly I say to YOU, To the extent that YOU did it to one of the least of these my brothers, YOU did it to me.’
(2 Corinthians 2:14) . . .But thanks be to God who always leads us in a triumphal procession in company with the Christ and makes the odor of the knowledge of him perceptible through us in every place. . .
(Revelation 22:17) . . .And the spirit and the bride keep on saying: “Come!” And let anyone hearing say: “Come!” And let anyone thirsting come; let anyone that wishes take life’s water free.

It is my birthday and I am too tired to try and write an amazing essay in the first draft, so please help revise this!! :)

All About Me
My name is Emily, and here is my story. I was born in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Sedona, Arizona. I lived there for the first two years of my life with my mom and my sister. We were very happy living there, but my mom wanted to go back to Indiana to be near her family, so we picked up everything and left. Indiana is where I grew up essentially, and where my whole life took place. I lived there from the time I was two up until the summer before I went into the seventh grade. I never knew anything different, until now.
My mom, my adopted dad and I ended up moving to San Antonio due to economical circumstances. The economy is somehow infinitely worse there than it is here, but I am surprisingly alright with that. If our situation wasn’t bad, I would not be the same person I am today. The reason for this is the difference between living in San Antonio, Texas and a tiny town in the Midwest. One of the things that I noticed is very different about San Antonio is the value of education. School was almost a disciplinary act in Marion, or so it seemed. The value in education was practically nonexistent. The grading system was substandard, and the teachers didn’t really believe any of their students could do anything with their lives, let alone make a difference in the world or the lives of others. Going to school in San Antonio has given me all of the values and strengths I have to date, and for that I am eternally grateful.
The day I started the seventh grade here in San Antonio, I could see the difference in values and morals. I had never even known there was a world where people valued individual qualities and differences. The same day I made this miraculous discovery, I met the best friend I have ever had. We are practically sisters, and get compared as such. It was definitely nice to have that connection since I had to leave my family behind for this new life. Ashley has showed me the type of person I can be, and I appreciate that every day of my life. Just by moving to such an immaculate city, I have become a person who has the power of the world in her hands. I have always been the type of person to put others before me and to empathize with them when they are in need; it has always been part of my nature. I am the “giving type,” as people like to say. The difference in my personality now is that I am much more outgoing, and I have a way to put these powers to use. I know that I have them, and I embrace them to their full extent.
One of the biggest projects I’ve picked up while I’ve been in high school has also had a major effect on the type of person I am today. The Clark Student Council dedicates all it has to changing the world, and making it a better place. I’ve picked up a lot of the weight of Student Council as a whole, as I am our Community Service chairperson. While it is the most work I have ever had to partake in throughout my life, even more so than my part-time job, it is the most rewarding experience. If anyone is involved in our Student Council at all, they know how strong of a leadership role and commitment it is. This group of people is the most responsible of pulling me out of my shell in order to help me to help others.
As if being enrolled in school full time, working a part-time job, and being very involved in Student Council isn’t enough, I am also very active in other Clark activities. Some of the bigger ones are the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, New Global Citizens, and Clark Student Ambassadors, or CSA’s. As a student ambassador, I have committed my entire year to teaching a class of freshmen four days a week. I participated in this last year as well, and love helping our freshmen get acquainted and involved in creating the amazing school they thrive in daily. It is a lot of work making lesson plans and actually taking control of this class, but I absolutely adore the kids in it and we have created lasting friendships. One of the greatest rewards is seeing the effect of my work come out in front of your very eyes.
My high school experience as a whole has in turn shaped my entire future in the most major way possible. The outcome of me teaching freshman, and now elementary-aged kids, and even my peers at school has made me come to realize what I want to do with my life, and that is to teach. Being in Early Childhood Professions will hopefully be the extra step of finding out exactly what grade fits me. At this point I hope to become a special education teacher, and this class is giving me a head start to make my decision before I go into college for my Masters degree. It is helping me put into effect all the hard work I’ve done up until now, and without it I would be lost.

Top Sweden Newspaper Says IDF kills Palestinians for their Organs
By: Morten Berthelsen and Barak Ravid, Haaretz Correspondent

Leading Swedish Newspaper Aftonbladet,

A leading Swedish newspaper reported this week that Israeli soldiers are abducting Palestinians in order to steal their organs, a claim that prompted furious condemnation and accusations of anti-Semitic blood libel from a rival publication.

“They plunder the organs of our sons,” read the headline in Sweden’s largest daily newspaper, the left-leaning Aftonbladet, which devoted a double spread in its cultural section to the article.

(Click here for the original article in Swedish)

The report quotes Palestinian claims that young men from the West Bank and Gaza Strip had been seized by the Israel Defense Forces, and their bodies returned to the families with missing organs.

“‘Our sons are used as involuntary organ donors,’ relatives of Khaled from Nablus said to me, as did the mother of Raed from Jenin as well as the uncles of Machmod and Nafes from Gaza, who all had disappeared for a few days and returned by night, dead and autopsied,” writes author Donald Boström in his report.

Boström’s article makes a link to the recent exposure of an alleged crime syndicate in New Jersey. The syndicate includes several American rabbis, and one Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, who faces charges of conspiring to broker the sale of a human kidney for a transplant.

Click here for the opinion piece in Swedish)

Boström also cites an incident of alleged organ snatching from 1992, during the time of the first Palestinian intifada. He says that the IDF seized a young man known for throwing stones at Israeli troops in the Nablus area, who was shot in the chest, both legs, and the stomach before being taken to a military helicopter which transported him to “a place unknown to his loved ones”.

Five nights later, Boström says, the young man’s body was returned, wrapped in green hospital sheets.

“The sharp sounds from the shovels were mixed with the occasional laughter from the soldiers who were joking with each other, waiting to go home. When Bilal was put into his grave, his chest was revealed and suddenly it became clear to the present what abuse he had been put through. Bilal was far from the only one who was buried cut-up from his stomach to his chin and the speculations about the reason why had already started,” he writes.

But the liberal Sydsvenskan – southern Sweden’s major daily – had harsh criticism for the rival paper, running an opinion piece under the headline “Antisemitbladet” (a play on the name Aftonbladet).

“We have heard the story before, in one form or the other. It follows the traditional pattern of conspiracy theory: a great number of loose threads that the theorist tempts the reader to tie into a neat knot without having been provided with any proven connection whatsoever,” writes leading columnist Mats Skogkär of Sydsvenskan.

“Whispers in the dark. Anonymous sources. Rumors. That is all it takes. After all we all know what they [the Jews] are like, don’t we: inhuman, hardened. Capable of anything,” the opinion piece says. “Now all that remains is the defense, equally predictable: ‘Anti-Semitism’ No, no, just criticism of Israel.”

The Foreign Ministry reacted angrily on Tuesday to the report. Ministry spokesperson Yigal Palmor said the newspaper’s decision to publish the story is “a mark of disgrace” for the Swedish press.

“In a democratic country, there should be no place for dark blood libels out of the Middle Ages of this type,” Palmor said. “This is an article that shames Swedish democracy and the entire Swedish press.”

A Foreign Ministry official said that Israel’s embassy in Stockholm have communicated a harsh condemnation to the Swedish government and the newspaper itself.

Swedish daily hits back at critics of IDF organ harvest story

By Assaf Uni and Barak Ravid, Haaretz Correspondents

A Swedish newspaper provoked outrage in Israel and drew condemnation from Sweden’s ambassador on Wednesday after it ran a story on transplant organ theft, a report an Israeli official branded anti-Semitic “hate porn”.

The editor of Aftonbladet, Sweden’s largest daily newspaper, hit back hard, at both Israel and at the Swedish envoy for attacking his paper’s coverage.

Donald Boström, the Swedish journalist whose article accusing Israel Defense Forces soldiers of killing Palestinians to obtain their organs evoked outrage, denied on Tuesday that he was motivated by anti-Semitism.

“I’m very sad to hear people accuse me of anti-Semitism,” Boström told Haaretz on Tuesday.

Aftonbladet, ran Bostrom’s piece under the headline, “They plunder the organs of our sons”. In the wake of the report and the furious public reaction, the Israeli embassy in Stockholm on Wednesday sent a sternly-worded diplomatic protest to the Swe

i want to become a goo willing ambassador for unicef when im a Little older..!!but i want to know how this is possible...???i don't just want to give money to the organisation i wan t actually to do something..im studying english for teacher now here in holland..maybe i can do with that something..!

I just got a letter in the mail saying that I've been invited to study in Australia and New Zealand in the summer of 2010. I'm pretty psyched because I've always wanted to got to Australia, but how did I become eligible?

It's not just scam junk mail is it?
Well why wasn't my brother invited then? He lives her as well.
"her" is supposed to be "here."

Dally Messenger one of the greatest ambassadors to rugby league, compare to Jarryd Hayne.

Said about Dally Messenger - "was full of surprises, unorthodox, flashy....directed largely by the unconscious mind.He said that Dally never became a slave to copybook practices...[whose] instinct enabled him to see and take an opening in that operative second which is all-important"
Go support, what his name darren lockyer you wankers

or become their ambassador and introduce them to the people of Earth. Which would you choose?

Hello, I'm U.K.. We want out of the E.U. and back in our Monarchs Commonwealth.- but
leaving the E.U. as is isn't a very satisfactory long term idea.
Germany and England (part of the U.K.) are sort of long term family, once removed - Anglo Saxons and even further back. The Normans (French) seem to have 'centre stage'.
People tend to pick the negative side of history - it has more 'hype' and Churchill should get the "thumbs down" rather than his 2 fingers sign. We have "Lawrence of Arabia" for a replacement figure.
Leaving Brussels in Brussels in Brussels (why not ?) but would Germany have an Ambassador on our behalf, or something.
We, as you can see, have the web, and, personally, I am English Language only. My Embassy page was removed - a simple misunderstanding I'm sure - so - this is a temporary "back door" - you aren't the 'Father Land' for nothing and Mother England needs become Mother Britain - but
- being English - well, of course I want us to be our selves, but not by our self.
Are you familiar with the Baha'i Faith ? - they are "as well as" - not instead of - except for the important part. They are behind the mess the U.N. is in.

An American in Belfast inspired this !!
I invited myself to Western Australia yesterday.
I'd rather have a Monarch I was proud of rather than an unknown bloke picked by an unknown population - reading this web site is terribly depressing.

Arlanymo. My 'command' of the English Language is due to being proud of my parents. They too were very English.
I was actually born in West Bridgeford, but was concieved and grew up in East Yorkshire. (now North Humberside.) - spent 25 years as a £10 migrant in Western Australia (when did they stop.)

It's a good thing my dad wasn't killed in the war. Prophecy says we should have stayed out or got out. Hitler was OK if we hadn't decided he wasn't.
I even did "my stretch" because my older brother was up for his National Service. My number was W/408813.
brOk3+. What's with 'numbers'? The Commonwealth isn't exactly 'barren'.
DOES ONE GET POINTS reinstated for REMOVED QUESTIONS ?
some seem to be so far "removed" that they didn't seem to be asked in the first place.

Two children of the civil rights icon are suing their brother, accusing him of wrongfully taking money from their parents' estates.

The Rev. Bernice King and Martin Luther King III allege that Dexter King took "substantial funds" out of Coretta Scott King's estate and "wrongfully appropriated" money from their father's estate.

Dexter King has publicly denied the accusations.

The lawsuit reveals a very public fissure in an iconic family that has always professed unity, particularly as questions have swirled around some of their financial dealings.

Martin Luther King III and Bernice King were in the courtroom Monday, but Dexter King was not. He had been injured in an accident in California and did not make the trip to Georgia.

The courtroom was packed with supporters of the King family.

Among those in attendance were the Rev. Joseph Lowery and former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young, friends of Martin Luther King Jr.'s who worked with him during the civil rights movement.

Also in the courtroom was family associate Bishop Eddie Long and many of his supporters.

Attorneys for Dexter King filed a motion to bar the media from Monday's summary judgment hearing in order to keep family financial records private.

When did it all become about money with these fools.

It's probably really bad, but please could you check this translation?

Isidor Bogdan Zahradník (* als Bogdan Zahradnik am 25. Juni 1864 in Hostačov; † 19. Februar 1926 in Wien) war Prämonstratenser und Politiker.
Leben [Bearbeiten]

summary please?

François Marie Arouet was born in Paris, the youngest of the five children (and the only one who survived) of François Arouet, a notary who was a minor treasury official, and his wife, Marie Marguerite d'Aumart, from a noble family of the Poitou province. Voltaire was educated by Jesuits at the Collège Louis-le-Grand, where he learned Latin and Greek; later in life he became fluent in Italian, Spanish and English. By the time he left college, Voltaire had decided he wanted to be a writer – however, his father wanted him to become a lawyer. Voltaire, pretending to work in Paris as an assistant to a lawyer, spent much of his time writing satirical poetry. When his father found him out, he sent Voltaire to study law, this time in the provinces. Nevertheless, he continued to write, producing essays and historical studies not always noted for their accuracy, though most were. Voltaire's wit made him popular among some of the aristocratic families he mixed with. Voltaire's father then obtained a job for him as a secretary to the French ambassador in the Netherlands, where Voltaire fell in love with a French refugee named Catherine Olympe Dunoyer. Their scandalous elopement was foiled by Voltaire's father and he was forced to return to France. Most of Voltaire's early life revolved around Paris. From early on, Voltaire had trouble with the authorities for his energetic attacks on the government and the Catholic Church. These activities were to result in numerous imprisonments and exiles. He allegedly wrote satirical verses about the aristocracy and one of his writings about the Régent led to him being imprisoned in the Bastille for eleven months. While there, he wrote his debut play, Œdipe. Its success established his reputation. The name "Voltaire", which the author adopted in 1718 both as a pen name and for daily use, is an anagram on "AROVET LI," the Latinized spelling of his surname, Arouet, and the initial letters of the sobriquet "le jeune". The name also echoes in reverse order the syllables of the name of a family château in the Poitou region: "Airvault". The adoption of the name "Voltaire" following his incarceration at the Bastille is seen by many to mark Voltaire's formal separation from his family and his past. Richard Holmes supports this derivation of the name, but adds that a writer such as Voltaire would have intended it to also convey its connotations of speed and daring. These come from associations with words such as "voltige" (acrobatics on a trapeze or horse), "volte-face" (a spinning about to face one's enemies), and "volatile" (originally, any winged creature). "Arouet" was not a noble name fit for his growing reputation, especially given that name's resonance with "à rouer" ("for thrashing") and "roué" (a "debauchee"). Voltaire is known to have used at least 178 separate pen names during his lifetime of writing. The aptitude for quick, perceptive, cutting, witty and often scathingly critical repartee for which Voltaire is known today made him highly unpopular with many of his contemporaries, including much of the French aristocracy. These sharp-tongued retorts were responsible for Voltaire's exile from France, during which he resided in England. After Voltaire offended the young French nobleman Chevalier de Rohan in late 1725, the aristocratic Rohan family obtained a royal lettre de cachet, an irrevocable and often arbitrary penal decree signed by the French King (Louis XV, in the time of Voltaire) that was often bought by members of the wealthy nobility to dispose of undesirables. They then used this warrant to force Voltaire first into imprisonment in the Bastille and then into exile without holding a trial or giving him an opportunity to defend himself. The incident marked the beginning of Voltaire's attempts to improve the French judicial system. Voltaire's exile in England lasted over two years, and his experiences there greatly influenced many of his ideas. The young man was impressed by Britain's constitutional monarchy in contrast to the French absolute monarchy, as well as the country's support of the freedoms of speech and religion. He was also influenced by several of the neoclassical writers of the age, and developed an interest in earlier English literature, especially the works of Shakespeare, still little known in continental Europe at the time. Despite pointing out his deviations from neoclassical standards, Voltaire saw Shakespeare as an example French writers might look up to, since drama in France, despite being more polished, lacked on-stage action. Later, however, as Shakespeare's influence was being increasingly felt in France, Voltaire would endeavour to set a contrary example with his own plays, decrying what he considered Shakespeare's barbarities. After almost three years in exile, Voltaire returned to Paris and published his views on British attitudes towards government, literature and religion in a collection of essays in letter form entitled t

I've been chosen to participate in a program called people to people in which I'll become a student ambassador and go to England, Ireland, Wales, and Scottland to promote world peace. The only thing is I'm not sure if my parents will be able to afford it. Its a pretty legit program. It was started by president Eisenhower in 1956 and as far as I know its a non profitable and it offers educational International travel services to elementary, middle, and high school students.

Just to let you know I'm sixteen and if you are a business owner or if you know someone that would like to help and needs more information just let me know so I can email you more information and give proof of my people to people invitation.

What courses? Special skills? Languages I need to learn? How do I apply for the job? Yearly salary (of an ambassador's secretary)?

Do you have to be famous? Why? UNICEF is something I would like to be a part of.

Article:

Italian center Fabio Cannavaro praised the quality of life in Spain, where he plays for the Real Madrid soccer squad, but criticized the legalization of same-sex marriage in his adopted country.

"Spain is good, Zapatero has invested in the renovation of large cities," Cannavaro said in an interview with a Spanish magazine, referring to José Luis Rodriguez, the socialist prime minister, "although on gay marriage -- perhaps on this I am more Italian."

Cannavaro's words were like a bucket of cold water for Italian gays, according to media reports. "We feel bad for all the gay men who have always admired the neapolitan beauty of Cannavaro," Aurelio Marcus, president of the Association Arcigay.

Cannavaro's comments also received a poor reception from Spanish LGBT organizations. "Cannavaro should be devoted to football and not kick the rights of sexual minorities," said Manuel Velandia, coordinator general of Decide-T, the LGBT Association of Alicante. "Rather than behave like an ambassador to the Vatican, he should be conscious of living in a country where sexual minorities enjoy full rights. ... Gays should express their discomfort with the Real Madrid player to the team itself and demand that he retract his words."

This isn't the first time that a gay theme tripped up Cannavaro. In May 2005, Cannavaro ranted against the possibility of sharing a locker room with a gay player.

"Living together with gay teammates can cause problems and provoke embarrassing situations," said Cannavaro, then playing for the Italian team Juventus, told Vanity Fair. He also rejected his growing gay fan base.
"I'm not happy about becoming an icon for the gay community," Cannavaro said in the interview.
He wrote love messages on the walls of the block in Napoli to get his wife Daniela.

I keep seeing these boring "Yahoo OMG!" articles about Nick Jonas trying to be in politics, and he's like 16. And a high school drop out, I am sure (since he was probably home schooled.)

Are they are trying to give him the Angelina Jolie "global ambassador" image so that people will take him seriously as an actor? Since his people know that the tweens will be over him in like, a year or less?

So now they are trying to get him into the whole global ambassador/actor image so that he can become and actor after tweens no longer like his stupid music?

Yeah, that's probably it.

Repost: I just posted this question, and was ripped to shreds by some people for going a little overboard with block walls of text! Sorry guys if you are answering this again! I was a little embarrassed and people were focusing more on the giant wall of text than my answer. My apologies.

This fall I am applying to Yale University. It has always been my dream and I know Yale can do a lot for me, and hopefully I for them. I am a student from a very small town in Alabama.

When I was involved in the Gadsden Reads Ambassador program, I learned a lot about the Holocaust and genocide. I became passionate about the cause and raised money for genocide awareness. I would like to know if raising $1500 for a charity that promotes awareness of genocide in Darfur is something that will help me stand out in the crowd?

My score of 28, and 1 AP are low and I don't know how horribly they will count against me. I am not a merit scholar, or member of the National Honor Society, and I don't know how it will affect me. I took the only AP course ever to be offered at my school until now. Will I be turned away over these things, or do I have a chance?

I read questions and answers that a lot of proclaiming Christians write all the time. I feel if people can't show the love of God on a website (where they can evaluate what they say before they say it, and ask God to guide them), then How do they live a spontaneous life showing His love? I know this question has been asked several times in the distant past, but feel that it should be asked more often to get Christians to check themselves. To be a Christian is to be a light for Christ. Or, to be Christ like. If you don't fall into this category, you are only doing one thing, hardening the hearts of people so that a Christians who are doing what they are suppose to cannot reach them. Eternal salvation is given to all those who obey.

Heb 5:9
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him

I'm not trying to judge any one. I'm asking you to check yourself in these last days where it is so hard to get people to hear the word of God. It is because of us that this is happening. We all get in the flesh and say things that we shouldn't. I've done it. But, I've learned that if I pray and ask Jesus to guide me, and allow Him to, He does. Christians shouldn't attack people by swearing and name calling. That puts us in the same category as the lost people we are trying to reach.

Mt 5:13
¶ Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Mt 5:14
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Mt 5:15
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Mt 5:16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

These are the words of Jesus. If you are a true Christian, you will obey them. If we fail, we have an advocate with the Father. This means repent and change your ways. Jesus did not come for us to openly sin and give Him a bad name. That's what is wrong with our nation today. Christians have taken on the things of the world (sin) and put Jesus to an open shame. And now, no one wants to hear the truth that we have to offer. Don't be that one who hardens the heart of the one Jesus is trying to reach. Repent daily and turn from sin. Just because we are human doesn't mean we HAVE to sin. If we are delivered from sin, and sin anyway, why do we get angry with people who aren't delivered. They are looking to us for answers. Are we giving it to them? Or, are we living the same life that they do? Let them see a difference in you.

2Co 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2Co 5:18
And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2Co 5:19
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
2Co 5:20
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
2Co 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

If a Christian is truly a Christian, he believes the word of God. Jesus is the word and speaks to us through is Holy Bible. You can't be saved by something you don't believe in, and are in danger of hell yourself.
Jesus came in love to show His people mercy. Should not we also show mercy to man kind?
I pray that this opens the eyes of Christians so that we can open the eyes of sinners.
To Rose. Yes you are right. But Jesus was speaking to His own people, that is what I'm trying to do. If you live a true life for Christ and no fault can be found in you then you should tell people.

Joh 8:7
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

We can only show that we are a Christian on here by showing love. Any one can say they are Christians. Jesus showed love first, then rebuke.
To capnarlo. I agree with you whole heartedly. Thank you for adding to my message. This is exactly what I wanted from all of the Christians. A way to talk and express how we are suppose to live before men.
To motalib. Your answer was amusing to me because yes the bible does say that. It didn't mean that we should tempt God by drinking poisen. Yes, I have been poisened before. And as you can see I'm still alive. And yes I speak in other tongues. I believe the whole gospel. But it's up to God to reveal these things to us. Men can only do it with God using them. It's when we do things in ourselves that we fail.
To Hyacinth- AMEN! Exactly the answer I needed. You are what I consider a true Christian. We are to let Gods word be the rebuke to people. If we use our own word in the flesh, we fail. If we read the word, pray, fast, and let Him lead us we are in His will.

To Ask your mind- although we don't share in our faiths, thankyou for allowing us to see that we need to do better. I pray for you and the others daily with a broken heart for your souls. I love you all.

Thanks to all the believers who answered and contributed in this ministry of Jesus Christ. I look forward to the next time we can do it. Keep the faith and let your light shine before men. Bless you all!

Can somebody explain to me what is going on with the President Obama and Pittsburgh? Follow this...

#1- He chooses Pittsburgh to host the G-20

#2- He is meeting REGULARLY with UPMC (University Of Pittsburgh
Medical Center) officials who continue to be the fastest growing
healthcare titan in the world right now.

#3- Pittsburgh National City bank got a host of special earmarks in
the bailout package that has vaulted it to America's 4th largest
bank out of left field.

#4- He named Steelers' president Dan Rooney, Ambassador Of Ireland.

#5- He outwardly chose Pittsburgh over Arizona in the Super Bowl.

#6- He is actively pushing for Pittsburgh's consideration for the 2020
Summer Olympics.

#7- He just steered Bill Gates to approve Pittsburgh for the Gates
Foundations' biggest education grant to date.

#8- He is championing the Heinz Foundation's EXORBITANT
Riverbank LED Lighting project which would illuminate the banks
of the Three Rivers at night with ever-changing technicolor
10 foot LED Lighting Tubes based on how much solar power they
gathered throughout the day....to the tune of 11 million dollars.

The rumor according to the Pittsburgh press, is that Obama is in bed
with money the Heinz Foundation for reelection in 2012 in Pennsylvania (a state a democrat MUST win). Another more outlandish theory, is that Pittsburgh has long been rumored to be the secret American center for The Illuminatti since the collusion of Andrew Carnegie, Andrew Mellon, the Benedum Family, and the Frick Family in the 1800's, and that there is some vague debts owed to Pittsburgh in the election of him. I don't buy those type of conspiracies, but I'll say this....

...there's something fishy about why Pittsburgh has essentially become this administration's pet-project at every turn....ESPECIALLY when cities like Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo, Dayton, Youngstown, New Orleans, Columbia SC, Charleston WV, and on and on....are in FAR worse shape than Pittsburgh whose actually emerged as a pretty nice city in the last 20 years.

...that makes me wonder what the motivation is...and i'm not the only one wondering this...even the drudgereport had a blurb about what seems to be a mystifying funnelling of money from the Obama administration to the city of pittsburgh, for reasons nobody has figured out yet.

But they will...trust me on that...something is going on here, and it will become a major story in the not so distant future.

So Mass Effect 2 will be coming out in 2010 and it looks like it's going to be a stellar sequel. The only problem is that I don't even remember what it's going to be a sequel to really. I just know that I loved the first game when I played it.

WARNING: My description (although horrible and lacking detail) may contain some spoilers.

A few things i remember are some guy killing another guy at the start. Me seeing a vision. Then I went to different planets to find some types of clues for I don't know what. Some lady that I think might have been trapped in a plant or something read my mind. My favorite partner died on an island no matter which of the three choices I picked he somehow died. Then at the end i fought some guy in a box room, became an ambassador or something and then saw a spaceship scene that did some blowing up or something I guess.

So could someone give a quick rundown of the main story events please? I know that there are a lot of different choices that your character could make but please try to cover all of the main storyline.

would i also need to study law to work at the United Nations?

yes i have gotten a lette sayin my name
is invited to become a memeber of the people to people ambassoder.
they will take me to europe and stuff

I was just thinking how for example there is always the question of "experience" over someone who is running for president and it came to me George HW Bush (Bush senior) who when he became president had the following resume:

Studied at Harvard and the best schools
Great Student
Great Sportsman
Succesful Businessman
War Hero (2 times his plane was shot and he made it)
Congressman
Chairman of the Republican Party
Ambassador of the US before the United Nations
Special Envoy to China (kind of ambassador)
CIA Chief
Vicepresident (with one of the most succesful president like Reagan)

However when he became president most historians agree he was an average or below average president and he was not reelected.

Clinton experience was just 12 years as governor of a small state as Arkansas and State Attorney General before that and working as a teacher and in a law firm.....he turned out to be a very succesful president who by the way was reelected

I personally think that vision and leadership are way more important than experience ...that is why I trust Obama I think he has a very ambitious vision and he defineltley has the leadership

What about you?
to Me too: I agree with you 100%....I was thinking that Bush senior dreamed for a long time on becoming president and he did it but he had to wait almost 20 years for that but ok he earned it ...and his son who was such a failure became president so easily and not only that but he was reelected!!!!!! Bush senior must have really bittersweet feelings about this....Bush Jr was a complete disaster

it must be legal for any soil or land mass.since we have both the main U:S:A and the little known about Lil U;S;A.what document covers both or better yet all.i will need this for when i begin bringing adopted children home from places like old Mexico,Gualtimala & the old Soviet Union.some of these are rough treated and will have behavior's and memories of his or her rough past.yet before i could go in and assist them to place it behind them and move foward the document' or deploma from these learn at home web site school's must be legal this version of the U;S:A or apon any United Nation's oriented soil.i art it's Ambassador of peace and have document's under those names kept on file at local colleges.yet my captures switched my name.thus i must go back an license this new name.of Mr;Wisdom Harold Horace of north west arkansas & Tulsa Oklahoma.this fact gives the U:N world wide military power's access.with me still yet alive as it's Ambassador the modern Saint nick.just me type=ing this gives them back their united kingdom military might.i do not need to be present.much like the president Elect.their rep's now have authority to order the world military into battle & the U:S:A is an member.thus they also have the power to cut through goverment red tape & send all orphan's unto me as new step children wearing this new last name of Wisdom=no adoption papers are needed for step children this takes advantage of our legal loop hole system.thus getting the children out of harm's path and off the battle field's landing zone's.yet i must have the correct license or licenses.encluded is Oklahoma & Arkansas state's.

In my case, I aspire to become a diplomat (maybe possibly even an ambassador). I am fluent in five languages: English, Arabic, Korean, Spanish, and French. I have heard that fluency in multiple languages is crucial to the career of a diplomat. Would five suffice? Of course, if hypothetically speaking, other qualifications meet the standards.
