Even though CERG group provides a service and the approach of other divisions are more structured towards products, there is a high degree of synergy and interdependence between these groups in achieving the common goals of the organization, ie, total quality management throughout the organization. Since CERG group is concerned with all other divisions and their tasks lead them to cross divisional boundaries, it is extremely important to initiate the total quality management within this group in order to create a strong foundation for other divisional groups. The high level of interdependency of the CERG group with other divisions makes it imperative for them to achieve highest standards in their services. The CERG group act as consultants for various plant level issues and the quality of their services rendered to other departments ultimately affect the quality of the final products being manufactured. Further, in order to achieve total quality management and six sigma throughout the organization, it is imperative for Canbide to pay attention to each strategic division in the organization, be it product oriented or service oriented. The final motive for any quality management initiative is to attain highest standards in quality for total customer satisfaction. Even a single loophole in the organization's quality process will lead to failure of the whole process. This is exactly the reason for aligning the quality process for the service oriented CERG group with those of quality process at other divisions. The product quality and distribution problems cannot be mitigated or removed by initiating quality procedures in that division alone since CERG and DRE groups play an important role in the plant level issues. Therefore, if the internal consultants from these groups will not be quality conscious themselves, they will not be able to achieve the desired changes with respect to quality in these departments. Further, a total quality conscious team from CERG will be able to design quality focused new distribution facility in the North East only when they themselves observe highest standards in quality.
